Billing and renewals

How renewals work: invoices, reminders and when we charge

2 minute readUpdated 19 Oct 2026

Your domains, hosting and email each renew on their own date. We send the invoice early and remind you along the way, so nothing expires by surprise. Here’s exactly what happens, and when.

The renewal timeline

For a yearly domain renewing on 1 June, this is what you’ll see:

  1. 60 days before

Email reminder that your domain is coming up for renewal.

  2. 30 days before

We create your renewal invoice, if auto-renew is on. You can pay it any time from now. (Monthly plans: 15 days before.)

  3. 15 and 7 days before

    Domain renewal reminders.

  4. 1 day before

    Invoice reminder.

  5. Renewal date

If you have a saved card, we charge it automatically. Your service carries on without a break.

  6. 1, 2 and 5 days after

If the invoice is still unpaid, overdue reminders.

  7. 1 and 7 days after

For domains, reminders that the domain has expired.

Once a domain expires, your website and email stop working.

Pay before the renewal date to avoid any break. If yours has already expired, see “My domain expired: grace and restore periods”.

Paying a renewal invoice

  1. Open your invoices

In the client area, go to Billing › My Invoices. Unpaid invoices show at the top.

  2. Open the invoice

Click Manage next to it to see what it covers.

  3. Pay

On the right, choose your Payment Method and click Pay Now.

Pay by card once and save it.

When you pay by card, you can save it. We then charge it on each renewal date, so you don’t need to do anything.

Turning auto-renew on or off

Domains renew automatically by default. In Domains › My Domains, use the Auto Renew switch next to each domain.

If it’s off, we don’t create a renewal invoice and we won’t charge your card. You’ll still get the reminder emails (60, 15 and 7 days before, and after it expires), so you can still renew it yourself any time with Renew Domain on the domain’s page. If you do nothing, the domain expires on its renewal date.

Common questions

Why did I get an invoice a month before my renewal?

We invoice 30 days early so you have time to pay without rushing. Paying early never shortens your term: your new year is added on from your current renewal date.

I have lots of services and get lots of invoices.

Each service renews on its own date, so you get one invoice per date. Services that share a date go on one invoice.

Why does my invoice show a different date from when I paid?

Once paid, the invoice shows the payment date. The renewal date for your service stays the same.

Are the prices on the invoice the same as the website?

Yes. Renewal prices are on our website, and VAT is added on top where it applies.
