Selling a domain, or handing it to a client or a new company? Moving it to the new owner’s Tasjeel.ae account is free, and the website and email keep working throughout. Here’s the whole process.
Before you start
- Both sides need a Tasjeel.ae account. The new owner can create one for free at my.tasjeel.ae.
- Only the current owner can start it. That’s the registrant: the person or company on the domain’s registry record. See Who owns your domain: the registrant and the account holder.
- Check the domain isn’t about to expire. Renew it first if it is, so it doesn’t lapse halfway through.
- Hosting and email don’t move by themselves. If they should go to the new owner too, say so in the ticket.
How it works
- The current owner asks us
The current owner emails [email protected], or opens a ticket, from the email address on the account the domain is in now. They tell us the domain, the new owner’s name, and the email address of the new owner’s Tasjeel.ae account.
- The current owner signs the request
They attach a request signed by the registrant, naming the domain and the new owner and saying why it’s changing hands (for example, the domain has been sold or handed to a client), with their ID (Emirates ID or passport). For a company, also the trade licence. An email on its own isn’t enough: the registry requires a signed request.
- The new owner confirms
We add the new owner’s email address (the one on their Tasjeel.ae account) to the current owner’s ticket as a CC, so everything stays in one place. The new owner replies on that ticket from that address, confirming they accept the domain, with their ID (and trade licence for a company). They also give the owner details to put on the registry record.
- We check and make the change
We check both sides, change the owner on the registry record, and move the domain into the new owner’s account.
- Both sides hear from us
We confirm to both the old and the new owner once it’s done.
After the move: for the new owner
- Open the domain in your client area and check the owner details under Contact Information.
- Turn auto-renew on, and add a saved card, so the domain doesn’t expire by accident. See Turn auto-renew on or off.
- Check the domain still points where it should. Nothing changes on the move, but it’s now yours to manage.
After an owner change, .com and other international domains may be locked against moving to another provider for 60 days. That’s an international rule, not ours. It doesn’t stop the domain working.
If you are the registrant, ask from the registrant email on the domain and we can move it into your own account. If the domain is in someone else’s name, contact us and we’ll explain your options.
